Coaching with Maddy

Sea State names Maddy in its private coaching package and mentorship descriptions. Its women’s community combines surf technique with discussion of confidence, decision-making and personal surfing goals.

A plan before the surf, feedback afterward

Private coaching begins with a goal-setting workshop, continues with in-water feedback and finishes with a review of what to work on next. Filming is available as an add-on for individual bookings and is included in the four-session pack.

Select a beach around your coaching goals

Private coaching spans two counties instead of one fixed teaching beach. Ask how the chosen location relates to the skills you want to practice. Group sessions have their own place and time, so check the current listing separately.

From Bolsa Chica to Sunset Cliffs

The stretch Sea State describes runs from Bolsa Chica's open sandbars to Sunset Cliffs' reefs at Point Loma. Those ends could hardly be more different: Bolsa Chica is a wide state beach with sand peaks, while Sunset Cliffs breaks over rock reefs below steep bluffs. Private coaching across that range means picking a beach for the skill you want to work on. Use our forecasts to compare a few nearby breaks on the same morning and see which suits your goal.

Who it’s best for

A relevant option for women already surfing who want clearer feedback and a supportive practice community. The group page specifically addresses shorter-board progression. First-time surfers should discuss suitability directly before choosing that format.

Local tips before you go

Bring specific questions about your current board and the changes you want to make. Confirm whether filming is included in your booking. Ask how footage is reviewed and what equipment you should bring to the session.

Check the surf before your session

Check the forecast for the agreed coaching break and discuss it with Maddy. Ask which goals fit the conditions and whether the meeting time or location should change before you head out.
