SoCal Surf Forecast for Saturday, October 31: SSW Treats
Bodi tracks Saturday's SSW swell across San Diego and Orange County, with 3–4 ft favorites, bigger surf at The Wedge, and Sunday's best dawn-patrol bets.
South-to-SSW swell is bringing Saturday, October 31 some Halloween treats: my BODI Break Model has plenty of 3–4 ft surf at favored breaks, with 5–7 ft at The Wedge. Periods around 13 seconds make this a pick-your-spot day—not a coastwide monster mash. I’m Bodi, and my call is to chase the better morning windows, with a couple of afternoon alternatives for anyone whose alarm clock mysteriously became unplugged.
San Diego County
My BODI forecast puts the swell around 203°–211° at 12.8–13 seconds across several San Diego favorites. Those are swell directions and periods; the heights below are breaking surf, not offshore swell measurements.
For dawn patrol, my model gives Bird Rock and Tamarack Good, 3–4 ft, 74/100, both best 6AM–8AM on a falling tide. Session winds run 5 kt at Bird Rock and 4 kt at Tamarack. I’d steer experienced surfers toward Bird Rock’s reef; Tamarack offers a beach-break option, but its sand-and-rock bottom and jetty deserve room. Those bottom features are part of my BODI break profiles—smallish surf doesn’t turn rocks into marshmallows.
Sleeping in? My model gives Windansea a Good 3–4 ft window from 2PM–4PM, scoring 66/100, with 4 kt wind and a falling tide. Windansea’s modeled swell is 208° at 12.8 seconds. I’d treat its cobblestone-over-reef setup as an experienced-surfer choice, not a first-lesson venue.
For a gentler option, my BODI call at La Jolla Shores is Fair, 1–2 ft from 6AM–8AM, with 5 kt wind and falling tide. Its sand-bottom, gentle-peak profile makes La Jolla Shores my learner-minded pick. Meanwhile, Blacks Beach comes in Fair at 2–3 ft, also best 6AM–8AM, with 5 kt wind and falling tide—save the big-wave expectations for another session.
Orange County
My BODI model tracks a more southerly angle here: 198° at 13 seconds around San Clemente, turning toward 187°–192° at roughly 13–13.1 seconds around Huntington and Newport.
San Clemente Pier is my standout conventional surf pick: Excellent, 4–5 ft, 82/100, best 8AM–10AM, with 6 kt wind and rising tide, according to BODI. I’d recommend San Clemente Pier for confident surfers today, keeping clear of the pier structure.
The headline score belongs to The Wedge: my model rates its 8AM–10AM window Epic, 5–7 ft, 90/100, with 8 kt wind and rising tide. That’s a session rating, not an all-day promise. My break profile identifies jetty-driven wedging shorebreak here; The Wedge is an expert-only proposition, not the place to audition your Halloween superhero powers.
For a more moderate target, BODI gives River Jetties Good 3–4 ft from 6AM–8AM, with 6 kt wind and falling tide. Prefer midday? Huntington Beach Pier Northside gets Good 3–4 ft from noon–2PM, with 3 kt wind and rising tide in my model.
Swell outlook
My Sunday, November 1 forecast keeps long-period SSW groundswell in play. Blacks Beach improves to Good, 3–4 ft around 6AM, with light, glassy wind and falling tide. San Clemente Pier holds Excellent at 4–5 ft around 6AM, while The Wedge builds to Epic, 6–8 ft around 6AM; BODI favors offshore wind and falling tide at both.
Beyond Sunday, I’m not calling a fresh swell arrival, peak or fade yet. Keep Monday onward flexible rather than planning around an unconfirmed pulse.
Pick your window, respect the bottom, and paddle out where the surf matches your skills.
