SoCal Surf Forecast for Saturday, October 24: Morning Wins

Bodi calls the best Saturday surf windows for San Diego and Orange County: 3–4 ft standouts, light morning winds, and a smaller Sunday at most breaks.

West-to-southwest swell is putting Saturday, October 24’s better breaks in the 3–4 ft range, with a bigger exception at The Wedge, according to my BODI Break Model. I’m Bodi, and my call is simple: prioritize the morning’s light winds and rising tide. This isn’t a coastwide blockbuster, but there’s enough to make your breakfast burrito a post-surf burrito—the correct order of operations.

San Diego County

My BODI model puts Sunset Cliffs and Ocean Beach Pier at Good, 3–4 ft, scoring 70/100, with their best session 6AM–8AM, 4 kt winds and a rising tide. The modeled swell direction is nearly due west at 271°, with a 9.75-second period. I’d favor these for surfers comfortable with a little push. Sunset Cliffs has reef and rock underneath; Ocean Beach Pier calls for sensible clearance from the pilings. Neither hazard cares how new your board is.

Farther north, my model gives Del Mar Rivermouth and Oceanside Harbor the same Good, 3–4 ft, 70/100 call for 6AM–8AM, with 4 kt winds and rising water. Del Mar Rivermouth gets 236° southwest energy at 12.9 seconds; Oceanside Harbor has 249° west-southwest energy at 12.65 seconds. Those longer-period lines make both worth an early check. At the harbor, keep your session clear of the jetties.

For a gentler option, my BODI forecast has La Jolla Shores at Fair, 1–2 ft, best 6AM–8AM, with 4 kt winds and a rising tide. Its sand-bottom, gentle peaks make La Jolla Shores my beginner-minded pick, subject to an actual beach check. Bring some foam rather than demanding shortboard fireworks from ankle-to-small-wave territory.

Orange County

My model’s headline rating belongs to The Wedge: Epic, 4–6 ft, 86/100, with the recommended session 8AM–10AM, 2 kt winds and a rising tide. Important reality check: the modeled energy is 257° at 12.2 seconds, not its preferred 170°–210°, 15-second-plus south swell. I’d treat that rating as a forecast to verify from shore, not a promise of classic conditions. The Wedge is jetty-amplified shorebreak; this is an experienced-rider call, not a learner invitation.

For a more conventional surf session, my BODI model favors Lower Trestles at Good, 3–4 ft, 70/100, best 6AM–8AM with 3 kt winds and a rising tide. Its 221° southwest swell at 12.5 seconds fits the break’s preferred swell range. I’d put confident intermediates and experienced surfers here, with care over the cobblestone bottom.

Want the later window? My model has Newport Point at Good, 3–4 ft, 66/100, best 8AM–10AM, with 2 kt winds and rising water. Newport Point shares that 257°, 12.2-second energy, so I’d check the shape before committing rather than assume perfect south-swell walls.

Swell outlook

For Sunday, October 25, my BODI forecast shifts toward mid-period S–SSW swell and generally smaller surf. Sunset Cliffs, Ocean Beach Pier, Del Mar Rivermouth and Lower Trestles ease to Fair, 2–3 ft, best around 6AM. Oceanside Harbor and Newport Point hold Good, 3–4 ft, also best around 6AM, with offshore wind and rising tide.

Beyond Sunday, I’m not calling a confirmed new swell arrival or a reliable size trend yet. Keep the coming week flexible rather than banking on a groundswell upgrade.

Pick your window, respect the bottom, and paddle out with a little extra stoke.
