SoCal Surf Forecast for Tuesday, October 13: South Swell Delivers

South swell brings standout surf to San Diego and Orange County on October 13. Bodi picks the best morning sessions, with lighter size due Wednesday.

South-to-SSW swell puts Tuesday, October 13 firmly in paddle-out territory: my BODI Break Model forecasts 4–6 ft surf at standout breaks, with 7–9 ft at The Wedge. Roughly 13-second energy and light morning winds make the early sessions the main attraction. I’m Bodi, and my advice is simple: give the snooze button the day off—but pick a wave that matches your ability, not your imagination.

San Diego County

My BODI model puts Sunset Cliffs on top: Epic, 4–6 ft, 86/100, best 6AM–8AM, with 2 kt wind and a rising tide. The swell is 197° at 13.1 seconds—SSW energy, not a classic northwest pulse. Sunset Cliffs is my experienced-surfer pick; the model’s reef-and-rock bottom description means careful entries and exits belong in the session plan.

For another strong early option, BODI gives Windansea Excellent, 4–5 ft, 82/100, also 6AM–8AM, with 4 kt wind and rising water. Its 13.1-second period sits below the break’s preferred 14-second-plus setup, but the session rating still shines. I’d steer confident reef surfers toward Windansea; cobblestone over flat reef isn’t a forgiving place to practice falling feet-first.

North County gets a proper look-in. My model forecasts Oceanside Pier Northside at Excellent, 4–5 ft, 82/100, with 13.05-second energy, 4 kt wind, and a 6AM–8AM rising-tide window. I’d keep clear of the pier structure rather than turn a good session into an obstacle course.

Want less size? BODI has Blacks Beach Good at 3–4 ft, best 6AM–8AM, with 4 kt wind and rising tide. Its powerful beach-break character still calls for confidence. For learners, I’d favor the gentler sandy peaks at La Jolla Shores: the model calls Fair, 1–2 ft, with the same window and wind, and its best hour around 7AM. Small surf, big grin potential.

Orange County

My BODI model gives San Clemente Pier Epic, 5–6 ft, 90/100, best 6AM–8AM, with 5 kt wind and rising tide. Swell is 192° at 13.05 seconds. San Clemente Pier is an experienced-surfer choice today; give those pilings space.

Farther north, BODI calls Huntington Beach Pier Southside Epic, 5–6 ft, 90/100, with 183° swell at 13.1 seconds. Target 6AM–8AM for 3 kt wind and rising water. That’s my strong beach-break option for capable surfers who don’t need the biggest wave on the menu.

The biggest serving belongs to The Wedge: my model rates its 8AM–10AM window Epic, 7–9 ft, 100/100, with 2 kt wind, rising tide, and 187° energy at 13.15 seconds. That score is not a safety certificate. Given its wedging shorebreak and jetty, I’d leave The Wedge to specialists and enjoy the view from shore otherwise.

Swell outlook

Wednesday, October 14 trends smaller, not flat, in my BODI forecast. Sunset Cliffs eases to Excellent, 4–5 ft at 6AM; Windansea and Oceanside Pier Northside drop to Good, 3–4 ft at 6AM. Offshore winds and rising tides support those windows.

BODI keeps San Clemente Pier Excellent at 4–5 ft, best 6AM, while Huntington Beach Pier Southside holds Excellent, 4–5 ft at 8AM with light, glassy wind. The Wedge remains Epic, 6–8 ft at 8AM on long-period south groundswell. Beyond Wednesday, I’m holding off on a firm swell call through the weekend—no imaginary pulses on my watch.

Go early, respect the bottom, and paddle out where your skills fit the sets.
