SoCal Surf Forecast for Saturday, October 10: Dawn Patrol Wins

Bodi calls the best Saturday sessions across San Diego and Orange County: light morning wind, south swell and a bigger, windier Sunday on the horizon.

South-to-SSW swell is serving up Saturday lines, with a bigger—but often messier—Sunday ahead. My BODI Break Model puts today’s standout Oceanside and southern Orange County sessions at 4–5 ft and Excellent, while The Wedge hits 6–8 ft and Epic. I’m Bodi, and my call for October 10 is simple: prioritize the morning window, not tomorrow’s extra size. Your snooze button is not your surf coach.

San Diego County

My BODI model gives Oceanside Pier Northside and Oceanside Harbor matching Excellent, 82/100 sessions from 6–8 AM: 4–5 ft breaking surf, 14.45-second swell, 2 kt wind and a rising tide. These are my county leaders for confident surfers. With the model identifying a pier-side beach break and a jetty-adjacent beach break respectively, I’d leave plenty of room around those structures rather than chase a shoulder into trouble.

Farther south, BODI has Windansea at Good, 74/100, with 3–4 ft surf during 6–8 AM, 2 kt wind and rising water. The swell is SSW at 202° and 14.2 seconds, comfortably inside Windansea’s favored 200°–275° window. That directional fit makes it a solid reef option, but its cobblestone-over-reef bottom deserves careful footing—not the enthusiastic beach sprint.

For learners, I’d steer toward La Jolla Shores: my model calls Fair, 1–2 ft, 2 kt wind and a rising tide during 6–8 AM. Its gentle, sandy-bottom peaks make La Jolla Shores my more approachable choice today, rather than treating every Good rating as beginner-friendly.

Missed dawn patrol? BODI gives Del Mar a 10 AM–noon opening: Good, 3–4 ft, 3 kt wind and a falling tide. Del Mar is my practical late-start alternative; breakfast doesn’t have to become a competitive eating event.

Orange County

My BODI model puts The Wedge on top numerically: Epic, 97/100, 6–8 ft during 6–8 AM, with 1 kt wind and rising water. Its south swell arrives at 188° and 14.3 seconds. That direction fits its favored southern exposure, although the period is below its preferred 15-second-plus range. The Wedge is jetty-amplified shorebreak, not an all-abilities invitation; I’d reserve this one for experts and happily recommend watching instead.

For experienced surfers seeking point-break lines, BODI rates Lower Trestles and Middles Excellent, 82/100, both 4–5 ft during 6–8 AM, with 14.3-second swell, 2 kt wind and rising tides. Mind the cobblestone bottoms. My model gives sandy-bottom Strands that same size, rating, score and morning setup—a strong beach-break alternative.

Swell outlook

Sunday, October 11 brings a substantial jump in my BODI forecast. Oceanside Pier Northside reaches 7–9 ft and Oceanside Harbor 7–10 ft, but both drop to Fair, with their best calls at noon amid 15 kt onshore wind and falling tides. Bigger surf, less polish.

BODI also takes Lower Trestles to Fair, 7–9 ft at noon Sunday, with 14 kt onshore wind. The better quality play shifts to Middles and Strands at 4 PM: both Excellent, 5–7 ft, with 7 kt onshore wind and falling tides. That’s lighter onshore wind—not offshore magic.

For Monday, October 12 onward, I’m holding off on a firm size or quality call; don’t build the week around an assumed continuation of Sunday’s jump.

Paddle early today, match the break to your ability, and leave some energy for Sunday’s bigger sets.
