SoCal Surf Forecast for Monday, November 2: Epic OC Picks
Bodi tracks Monday's south-to-southwest swell: Epic Orange County standouts, Excellent San Diego options, morning session times and Tuesday's surf outlook.
South-to-southwest swell puts Monday, November 2 firmly on the surf calendar: my BODI model calls for 4–6-foot surf at Orange County’s standout spots and 4–5-foot waves at several San Diego favorites. Periods around 13 seconds give this swell some substance, while light morning winds make the early sessions my priority. I’m Bodi, and today’s forecast has considerably more shape than my breakfast burrito.
San Diego County
My BODI model puts Sunset Cliffs, Grandview and Oceanside Harbor in the Excellent bracket at 4–5 feet, scoring 82/100, with prime windows of 8–10 AM on a falling tide. Session winds run 4 knots at Sunset Cliffs and Grandview, and 5 knots at Oceanside Harbor. Modeled periods are 12.4 seconds at Sunset Cliffs, 12.9 at Grandview and 12.8 at Oceanside Harbor. That’s my shortlist for experienced surfers chasing the bigger morning options.
For a notch less size, BODI has Windansea at Good, 3–4 feet, scoring 74/100 during 8–10 AM, with 5-knot wind and a falling tide. The modeled swell there runs 235° at 13.05 seconds—a southwest angle inside Windansea’s preferred swell range, though short of its ideal 14-second-plus period. I’d still watch a few sets before committing: BODI’s break profile identifies cobblestone over flat reef, and today’s falling tide isn’t its preferred incoming setup.
For newer surfers, I’d check La Jolla Shores rather than chase an Excellent badge onto a reef. BODI calls La Jolla Shores Fair, 2–3 feet, 6–8 AM, with 6-knot wind and a falling tide; its gentle, sand-bottom peaks make it my more approachable recommendation. At the bigger picks, respect the reef-and-rock bottom at Sunset Cliffs, Grandview’s reef patches and the jetties near Oceanside Harbor. Stoke is free; replacement fins are not.
Orange County
BODI gives Lower Trestles Epic, 4–6 feet, 6–8 AM, with a score of 82/100, 5-knot wind and a falling tide. Its 205° swell at 12.9 seconds fits the cobblestone point’s south-through-west exposure and 12-second-plus preference. I’d put Lower Trestles high on the list for confident surfers wanting lefts and rights.
Prefer a later start? My model has San Clemente Pier Epic at 4–6 feet during 8–10 AM, scoring 88/100, with 5-knot wind and a falling tide. San Clemente Pier shares that 205°, 12.9-second swell signature. Give the pier plenty of space; an Epic rating is a wave-quality call, not a permission slip to ignore obstacles.
The biggest headline belongs to The Wedge: BODI projects Epic, 6–8 feet, 97/100, best 6–8 AM, with 5-knot wind and a falling tide. The swell runs 206° at 12.9 seconds. That period is below its preferred 15-second-plus range, but the modeled breaking surf still commands respect. With jetty-amplified shorebreak in its break profile, The Wedge is my expert-only option—or a very good place to keep your breakfast on dry land.
Swell outlook
Tuesday’s BODI forecast favors selective repeat sessions rather than a widespread upgrade. Grandview eases to Good, 3–4 feet at 8 AM, while Oceanside Harbor holds Excellent, 4–5 feet at 8 AM, with mid-period SSW swell and light, glassy wind. Sunset Cliffs slips to Fair, 3–4 feet, with cross-shore wind.
In OC, BODI takes Lower Trestles down to Fair, 3–4 feet at 8 AM, while San Clemente Pier stays Good, 4–5 feet at 8 AM. The Wedge remains Epic, 6–7 feet at 6 AM, with offshore wind. Beyond Tuesday, I’m holding off on a firm midweek or weekend swell-arrival call—no mystery groundswell promises from this bro.
Pick your morning window, match the break to your ability, and paddle out with a plan.
