SoCal Surf Forecast for Sunday, November 1: Dawn Patrol Wins
Bodi calls the best Sunday surf windows for San Diego and Orange County, with 3–4 ft dawn sessions, bigger Wedge surf and a promising Monday swell outlook.
Southwest-to-south-southwest swell brings Sunday, November 1 a worthwhile early window: my BODI Break Model calls Good 3–4 ft surf at several San Diego standouts, with bigger action in Orange County and stronger Monday sessions ahead. Today’s catch? Timing. Light morning wind gives way to much stronger daily wind forecasts at many breaks. I’d make breakfast the second most important appointment.
San Diego County
My BODI model puts Windansea, Bird Rock and Sunset Cliffs at Good, 3–4 ft, from 6–8AM, each scoring 74/100 on a falling tide. Wind runs just 3 kt at Windansea and Bird Rock, and 2 kt at Sunset Cliffs. Modeled swell is from 213°–214° at roughly 13.6 seconds: southwest energy with enough period to make those reef sessions interesting.
That is a session recommendation, not an all-day promise. BODI’s daily ratings for those three are Fair, with daily wind figures around 17.5–18.6 kt. I’d favor experienced reef surfers here: the model’s break profiles identify cobblestone and flat reef at Windansea, reef at Bird Rock, and reef and rock at Sunset Cliffs. Give the bottom respect; it does not accept apology burritos.
Farther north, my model also calls Oceanside Pier Northside Good, 3–4 ft, 6–8AM, scoring 74/100 with 3 kt wind and falling tide. Its swell runs 217° at 13.2 seconds. That’s another early option for confident beach-break surfers; keep your session clear of the pier.
For a smaller-wave check, BODI has La Jolla Shores at Fair, 1–2 ft, 6–8AM, with 3 kt wind and falling tide. Its sand-bottom, gentle-peak profile makes it my more approachable choice for learners than the reefs, though Fair is not a guarantee of easy conditions.
Orange County
My BODI pick for a manageable performance session is Lower Trestles: Good, 3–4 ft, 6–8AM, 74/100, with 2 kt wind and falling tide. The modeled SSW swell is 205° at 13.55 seconds. Its cobblestone point offers lefts and rights, but the daily rating is Fair with an 18.4 kt daily wind figure. Get the early session rather than banking on afternoon polish.
For size, BODI calls The Wedge Good, 6–8 ft, 6–8AM, scoring 80/100 with 6 kt wind and falling tide. The Wedge carries an Excellent daily rating, distinct from that Good session-window rating, with a 13.3-second period. Its jetty-driven shorebreak makes this an expert-only consideration in my book—not the place to discover whether your confidence is waterproof.
Sleeping in? My model puts San Clemente Pier at Fair, 5–7 ft, 4–6PM, with 16 kt wind and falling tide. There’s size, but I would not trade a cleaner early option for that windier window unless bigger surf is your priority.
Swell outlook
Monday, November 2 is the upgrade, according to BODI. Long-period SSW groundswell, offshore wind and falling tide lift Lower Trestles to Epic, 4–6 ft at 6AM, and San Clemente Pier to Epic, 4–6 ft at 8AM. The Wedge reaches Epic, 6–8 ft at 6AM on mid-period SSW swell with offshore wind.
In San Diego, my model calls Bird Rock, Sunset Cliffs and Oceanside Pier Northside Excellent, 4–5 ft at 8AM Monday. Beyond Monday, I’m keeping the week-ahead call open rather than promising an unconfirmed pulse, peak or fade.
My call: grab today’s early window, match the break to your ability, and keep Monday morning free.
